Hosts: Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) und Susanne Fünfstück (BBAW)
The European Enlightenment extended the values of human reason, tolerance, and liberty also to gardens and their design. New perspectives were developed on the relationship between human beings and nature. Gardens of the Enlightenment(s) have been a central part of the debate on this relationship. Transforming the BBAW garden into the AGYA science track, visitors are invited to trace the uneven anthropocene pathways. Where did these paths lead to and how are they perceived nowadays? What does a garden mean to you? What is a garden?
The BBAW garden with its inspiring and creative diversity of planting is an interactive urban space for scientific encounters. In audio and light installations, AGYA presents current research on urban vertical farming and food security, plants and herbs in nanomedicine, plants as cultural heritage from an Arab-German perspective as well as current voices on Enlightenment(s) and female empowerment in science. Follow the track and explore gardens, horticulture, and plants of the Enlightenment, highlighted in their historical as well as contemporary context, so to speak 2.0. Along the way, AGYA members and alumni/ae will inspire you with Arab-German soap box talks.
