Obadiah Rich an Wilhelm von Humboldt, 31.10.1828
|149r| Mr. Rich, late a Consul of the United States in Spain, has the honor to inform Baron Humboldt of his arrival in this country, with a collection of rare and curious Books and MSS principally in the Spanish language, together with his books and MSS relating to America, of which, he understands Baron Humboldt has seen an incomplete Catalogue printed by order of the Congress of the United States. – Mr Rich wishes to dispose of this American collection en masse, but has duplicates of many curious articles which he would sell separately. – Mr Rich is induced to make this communication from having understood that it was Baron Humboldts desire. –
Mr. Rich having established himself in this country for the purpose of collecting rare and curious books for such Institutions and Individuals as may think proper to employ him, takes advantage of this occasion to offer his services to Baron Humboldt. –
